Our Spanish Language Program

Our Spanish classes attract new and advanced learners at four levels. Each class is taught by two native Spanish speakers, so you will receive plenty of personal attention. During your nightly break, you can enjoy refreshment and conversation with native Spanish speakers studying in our English classes. Spanish classes meet one evening a week and are divided into grammar and practice. Outside of class, your teachers may plan excursions to movies and plays, and they stay in touch with you by weekly emails.

Spanish Level 1: As a beginning student you will be introduced to the Spanish language, as you form and answer questions and hold conversations on topics such as family, home, food, health and employment. Through interactive dialogues, games and songs, you’ll practice the structure of simple sentences in the present tense.

Spanish Level 2: In this class you will expand your vocabulary and learn to use past tenses and to combine tenses. You will participate in discussions, songs and games and improve reading and writing skills, with more understanding of the formation of sentences and phrases. Lessons focus on practical situations such as ordering in a restaurant, planning a trip, visiting the doctor and employment.

Spanish Level 3: Here you will focus on improving fluidity, vocabulary and overall understanding of spoken and written Spanish. After one to two terms in Level 3, you will have built conversational ability in anticipation of Level 4.

Spanish Level 4: Our advanced class will encourage you and your fellow students to use idiomatic Spanish and to discuss complex topics such as current events. Level 4 students are already familiar with the fundamental structures of Spanish grammar, so your needs will determine the grammar focus of the class. In an upbeat environment, you will enjoy the support of your instructor and classmates, and the opportunity to express yourself in Spanish with confidence.
